Why food security is a skills problem before it is a soil problem

The continent does not lack land or ambition. It lacks enough people trained to a standard to run its farms, cooperatives and supply chains.

A smallholder field at harvest

The continent does not lack land, sun or ambition. What it lacks, in too many places, is enough people trained to a standard to run its farms, cooperatives and supply chains well. That gap is the argument behind everything we do.

The gap is human, not only agronomic

You can ship better seed and cheaper inputs, but without the capability to use them, yields and incomes stall. Skills are the multiplier that makes every other investment actually pay off.

What we are doing about it

Through AFSDC and our field programmes, we are building credentialed capability that employers can trust, paired with tools that hold up in real conditions.
